NATASHA DOWNING

CLIMBING SCHOOL MANAGER / CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Natasha has been climbing for 12 years and loves steep limestone, primarily climbing in American Fork Canyon. She manages all adult climbing programs, including creating curriculum, scheduling, managing instructors, and coaching.

Natasha is a CWI Provider, Lattice Assessor Certified, and trained in "Coaching for Mastery" by Power Company. She has coached the Quarry team for a couple of years and enjoys helping women overcome their fears in lead climbing, drawing from her own experiences.

Outside of climbing, Natasha loves petting dogs, paddleboarding, and mountain biking. She believes climbing is for everyone and wants to create a welcoming community for all.

MORGAN LOOMIS

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / ADAPTIVE PROGRAMS

Morgan Loomis has been climbing for six years, starting in St. George after taking an outdoor climbing class, which sparked a passion for sandstone. When the first climbing gym opened in the area, Morgan eagerly pursued a job, and over time, took on various roles, including coaching and routesetting.

After losing her right leg below the knee in 2022, Morgan began competing in paraclimbing and now travels the world representing Team USA. At Momentum, Morgan works as desk staff, an instructor, and plays an active role in adaptive programming. While their experience with the youth circuit is limited, Morgan has spent a lot of time with team kids and has watched many youth competitions.

She enjoys working with clients of all ages and abilities, especially kids, adults, and adaptive athletes, from beginner to intermediate levels. Outside of climbing, Morgan loves reading and pottery. Always psyched, Morgan is passionate about helping others discover and enjoy the sport of climbing.

PAUL ROBERTSON

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Paul has been climbing for 24 years, with experience in big walls, alpinism, trad, sport, and bouldering. He works as a Personal Climbing Instructor and has previously coached Youth Programs. He enjoys working with families, beginner adults, and intermediate to advanced climbers, including adaptive athletes. Paul is passionate about sharing his climbing expertise with others.

TOYA EASTMAN

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / YOUTH CLUB COACH

Toya's climbing journey began with a birthday party in 2009. While she started with bouldering, she is now passionate about sport climbing, favoring Kalymnos, Greece, for sport and Joes and LCC for bouldering.

She currently serves as the Head Co-Coach for AYC and works with our Climbing School. Toya is certified in Safe Sport and CPR and has extensive coaching experience in youth programs at MCK, helping many kids transition to the competition team.

Toya enjoys working with beginner youth, beginner adults, kids prepping for the competition team, intermediate adults, adaptive climbers, and families.

Outside of climbing, she loves tending to her many plants, sewing, cooking, and practicing German. Toya is passionate about climbing pedagogy and finds joy in helping others gain confidence in their climbing abilities while learning alongside them.

NATE DROLET

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Nate has been climbing since 2005, embracing a blend of sport climbing and bouldering. His approach to climbing involves adapting to various styles and areas, which has enriched his experience in the sport.
As a Climbing Coach with ten years of experience, Nate brings a strong foundation from his previous work as a Strength and Conditioning coach. He has a history of competing in youth competitions and has intermittently coached youth competitors throughout his coaching career.
Nate primarily focuses on helping adult climbers who feel stuck at a plateau and are seeking guidance to advance their skills. He coaches athletes across a wide range, from V4 to V16, with a specialization in movement and technique. Outside of climbing, Nate enjoys coffee and is passionate about sharing his love for the sport with others.

JON VICKERS

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Jonathan Vickers has been climbing for nearly 20 years, starting in West Virginia before relocating to Salt Lake City in 2012. He enjoys solving puzzles on shorter routes and boulder problems, focusing on various climbing disciplines each season. Currently a coach at Momentum, he previously managed the climbing school and digital marketing. Jonathan is an AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide, Wilderness First Responder, and holds a Master’s in Journalism.

He primarily works with adults looking to enhance their climbing performance and occasionally works with families. A budding visual journalist, Jonathan has dabbled in other outdoor sports but specializes in climbing, taking a mindful approach to coaching and personal growth.

LUKE WILKEN

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / SPI CERTIFIED

Luke Wilken has been climbing for 12 years, starting before college. He worked at Ohio State’s climbing gym, led trips, and developed a climbing course. After moving to Utah, he worked as an outdoor guide and has taught at Momentum for 5 years, specializing in traditional crack climbs, particularly in Little Cottonwood and Indian Creek.

Currently focused on Momentum's Climbing School, Luke has also been a facilities manager and youth coach. He is a trained Single Pitch Instructor (SPI) with 3.5 years of experience coaching Youth Club 2. He enjoys working with beginners, families, and adaptive athletes, and in his free time, he likes skiing, fishing, and golfing.

NIKKI MCGEE

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / NASM CPT, RYT-200

Nikki started climbing in 2002 in Minnesota, which soon led to a position at a local gym and retail store. For over two decades, climbing has been an essential part of her personal growth journey, ultimately leading her to Utah. Throughout her 22-year career, Nikki has taken on roles as a guide, coach, personal trainer, retail associate, buyer, product tester, clinic instructor, and even the founder of a nonprofit dedicated to promoting healing and community through climbing. She's been with Momentum for nearly 11 years, sharing her love for climbing every day.

As a Climbing School Coach and Personal Trainer at Momentum, Nikki is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer (CPT) and a certified yoga instructor (RYT-200). She’s open to working with any motivated clients and loves helping individuals and groups build trust, overcome self-imposed limits, and grow through climbing.

Outside the gym, Nikki is a full-time fly fishing guide and trip host and works in heli-skiing during winter months. Her favorite climbing spots are the Needles District in South Dakota and Squamish, BC, and while she's a sport climber at heart, she also enjoys teaching on boulders. /

DIEGO MALDONADO

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Diego Maldonado was born and raised in the Wasatch and started climbing at sixteen, now with seven years of experience. He enjoys various disciplines, including bouldering, lead, traditional, alpine, ice climbing, and route development. His favorite is traditional granite climbing, particularly in Little Cottonwood Canyon.

Diego works as a Personal Instructor, Climbing Coach, and College Educator for Momentum. He has training in Single Pitch Instruction and is pursuing SPI certification.

He enjoys working with climbers of all ages and abilities, helping them develop their skills.
Outside of climbing, Diego spends his time hiking, backpacking, fishing, and establishing new routes. He also enjoys writing prose and fiction.

JAROM PUEBLO

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Jarom Pueblo started climbing in 1996 in Colorado, where he developed a preference for multi-pitch climbing. Now residing near American Fork Canyon, he has dedicated most of his outdoor climbing time to the stunning local crags. At Momentum, Jarom teaches basic movement principles and lead climbing to beginners, while also contributing to various operational aspects of the gym. He has a keen eye for quality and regulatory issues, skillfully managing these concerns in his day job. He enjoys working with adult climbers and balances his climbing passion with full-time studies and a full-time job. Outside of climbing, Jarom enjoys cycling, playing video games, and reading.

SARIAH CARIN

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Sariah Carin has been climbing for 12 years, focusing on outdoor bouldering and competitive indoor sport, with her favorite experience being deep-water soloing in Mallorca. At Momentum, she has served in various roles, including Head Youth Program coach and competition coach.

Sariah is a certified USAC Level 2 coach and Level 1 routesetter, with CPR/First Aid/AED certifications. She has worked with youth competitors and will coach at USAC Youth Events this year, emphasizing youth development alongside Tyler Nielson (C4HP).

She enjoys working with motivated athletes and specializes in creating customized training programs. Outside of climbing, Sariah loves trail running, paddleboarding, and skiing.

TREVOR TATEYAMA

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / YOUTH CLUB COACH

Trevor Tateyama has been climbing for six years, with a love for dihedrals and memorable experiences at Ten Sleep. At Momentum, he is a Youth Club Head Coach and offers personal coaching and Learn to Climb classes.

He enjoys guiding climbers from beginner to advanced levels. Outside of climbing, Trevor is passionate about video games, particularly chess. A humanist and environmentalist, he follows a vegan diet and uses an ebike to reduce his carbon footprint.

JEFFERSON BREWER

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR / (NSCA-CSCS)

Jefferson Brewer has been climbing since he was two, starting seriously about 15 years ago. He enjoys the creativity in climbing, especially in tricky dihedrals, and loves bouldering in Little Cottonwood and sport climbing in American Fork Canyon. Jefferson has been an instructor at Momentum's Climbing School for 6 years.

He holds certifications as a National Strength and Conditioning Association Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA-CSCS) and an American College of Sports Medicine Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM-EP). Currently pursuing a PhD in Integrated Health Science focusing on Human and Sport Performance, he has coached Advanced Youth Club and prefers working with adults open to improving their style and technique.

In his free time, Jefferson enjoys outdoor activities with family and friends, woodworking, and reading. He will soon be recruiting participants for his dissertation on climbers' physiology.

KARLI MAYNES

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Karli has been climbing for 7 years, starting at Momentum Sandy. Initially scared of heights, she found her confidence while climbing cracks, which led her to fall in love with all climbing disciplines.

Currently, Karli is a Climbing School instructor at Momentum, having previously worked as gym ops staff for 3 years and as a Youth Program coach for 2 years. She was also part of the DEI committee during her time as gym staff. While she doesn’t hold official AMGA certifications, her job at Petzl includes weekly hands-on training in various climbing techniques and gear.

Karli enjoys working with climbers of all ages and skill levels, especially beginners and intermediates. Outside of climbing, she loves whitewater activities, lifting, ice climbing, reading, and attending concerts. Her strengths include creating a welcoming environment and teaching in an easily understandable way.

MARCUS PETERSON

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Marcus Peterson has been climbing for five years and loves the thrill of lead climbing and bouldering, especially the satisfaction of hitting the chains on a lead project. He enjoys climbing in American Fork and Big Cottonwood Canyon.

At Momentum, he serves as Ops Staff, Maintenance, ABC Head Coach, and Climbing School instructor, currently leading the advanced 8-11 year-olds. While he welcomes beginners and families, his expertise lies in teaching children at the beginner to intermediate skill levels.
Outside of climbing, Marcus plays guitar and basketball, and he’s passionate about weightlifting and educating others about it. He thrives on challenges that encourage him to adapt and grow as a versatile teacher.

KELSIE EVERSON

CLIMBING INSTRUCTOR

Kelsie Everson has been climbing for 12 years and coaching at Momentum for seven. She loves both bouldering and sport climbing, drawn to the mental and physical challenges they offer. A strong advocate for the mental health benefits of climbing, she finds herself most present when on the wall. At Momentum, Kelsie teaches a variety of classes, including Learn to Climb, How to Boulder V3/V5, and her favorite, the Bad Girls Bouldering Club, where she empowers women through climbing. Kelsie holds a teaching degree from BYU and a snowboarding certification, showing her passion for instruction. Kelsie enjoys working with teens and adults, helping them master technical climbing skills. Outside of climbing, she’s a piano technician, musician, snowboarder, motorcyclist, and sometimes pilot. She loves inspiring "ah-ha" moments and believes climbing builds both confidence and empowerment.

Who can Participate in Personal Instruction?

Our personal instruction programs are designed for climbers of all ages and skill levels, including kids, families, and beginners. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to refine advanced techniques, we have a coach for you.

How do I Choose a Coach?

You can review our coaches’ profiles on our website to learn about their qualifications, specialties, and coaching styles. If you’re unsure, our team can help you find a coach that best matches your needs and goals.

What Should I Expect During a Personal Instruction Session?

During your session, your coach will assess your current skill level and develop goals for growth. You’ll receive hands-on guidance, feedback, and support as you work on specific skills or techniques.

What Should I Bring?

Please wear comfortable athletic clothing and climbing shoes. If you don’t have climbing shoes, we have rentals available at our facility. Bring water and any personal gear you may need, such as chalk or harnesses.

What if I Have Something Specific I Want to Work On?

We encourage you to share your specific goals with your coach during your first session. They will tailor your session to focus on those areas and help you make progress toward your aspirations.

Can I Bring a Friend?

Yes! If you and your friend are at similar levels and have similar climbing goals, you’re welcome to bring them along for a shared session. There is an additional charge of $20 per hour for each extra participant, with a maximum of two additional participants per session.

Investing in one-on-one coaching is the most effective way to advance your climbing skills! During your first session, your skills will be evaluated, allowing your coach to identify areas for improvement. Together, you’ll set goals to enhance your skills to help you achieve your climbing goals.

Your first session is priced at the full rate, ensuring you receive a comprehensive introduction to personalized instruction. After your initial session, you can choose to continue with individual one-hour bookings or work with your coach to purchase discounted bundles of 3, 6, or 10 hours. These bundles cannot be purchased online; instead, your coach will coordinate with you to create a schedule that fits your availability and help you check out at our front desk.

With personalized instruction, you’ll get the support you need to reach your climbing goals faster and enjoy the journey together.
