WELCOME

Momentum Katy boasts 36,000 square feet of space for both roped and and un-roped climbing, speed climbing, and large areas for fitness and yoga! Climbing is a personal journey of achievement, every bit as satisfying for the first-time beginner as it is for the seasoned expert. Momentum prides itself on having one of the best youth development systems in the country. Now that climbing is an Olympic sport comprised of three disciplines – speed climbing, bouldering, and lead climbing – few gyms in the country can offer the training that youth need to compete at the highest level in the sport like Momentum Katy can.

What's the Difference Between Bouldering / Top Rope / Lead Climbing?

Bouldering is climbing up to 15ft (in gym) off the ground without the use of ropes or climbing gear. Pads are provided throughout the bouldering areas and participation in a Safety Orientation is required prior to climbing. This type of climbing is available to climbers of any skill level and does not require a partner.

Top Roping is climbing up to 50ft (in gym) on a rope that is already attached to the top of the wall while being belayed by a certified partner below. This type of climbing is available to climbers of any skill level and requires a partner(s). Belay certification is required prior to climbing. Belay Classes are offered daily, visit a location’s “classes” page for more information or to sign up.

Lead Climbing refers to climbing on our full height walls in areas that do not already have a rope attached at the top. Unlike Top Roping, Lead climbers must bring the rope with them as they progress up the wall. Leading is an advanced form of climbing and not recommended until you have a strong Top Rope climbing foundation. Lead Certification is required prior to leading in our gyms. Classes are offered several times a month at our rope gyms, please review the requirements prior to signing up for this class on a location’s “classes” page.

  • Please note:
    • Momentum Lehi, SODO, and Silver Street are Bouldering Only gyms.
Momentum Millcreek, Sandy, and Katy offer both Rope Climbing and Bouldering.
    • We do not allow anyone other than Momentum employees to provide belay instruction inside our gyms.

WHAT TO EXPECT

  • All visitors are required to fill out a waiver, including spectators.

  • Rope Climbers must be belay certified prior to climbing.

    • If you know how to belay, visit the Front Desk to get certified.

    • If you do not know how to belay, sign up for our Learn To Belay Class!

  • Lead Climbing requires a 35meter rope, certification, and ability to climb a 5.10 test route.

  • Exercise equipment use is first come first serve.

  • Climbing Shoes, Harness, and Belay Device rentals available at Front Desk.

    • We do not provide or rent out lead ropes.

I've climbed at a LOT of gyms. This is state of the art. 50ft walls, very varied, good setting. And soft enough for me to flash 12s 🙂

Went here with a friend for my first experience ever rock climbing and although it was busy (7pm on Monday) I still was easily able to find climbs that were doable for me and honestly did so much more than I thought I'd be able to. As a female over 200lbs, I was very surprised that I was able to make it to the top of climbs and ended up doing 4 total (3 balay, 1 boulder). The staff was kind and helpful and overall I had an awesome time. Strongly considering doing the two week trial.

I want to give a shoutout to Ellen for being SO incredibly polite, quick, and helpful! She answered all my questions on the spot, and belay certified me after some assistance, no questions asked. (The other employees should take the time to learn from her). This gym was clean, spacious, and had LOTS of ropes to climb on! Will be back!

Unbeatable Houston area indoor rock climbing. There is another gym that comes close, but ultimately MoKaty has the best of everything. The staff is always friendly, helpful, and ensuring safety. They also teach intro courses every day with no extra charge (if memory serves). The walls are quite tall, bouldering area is extensive, and the workout gym is a better quality than you'll find at most fitness gyms! My only wish is that they had some sort of cafe, that would make it a climber's heaven, but there are good vending machines. Still, a paradise of hard sends and happy climbers.

I've been enjoying this gym for over 3 years! Plenty of top rope, bouldering, and lead climbs. They even have a nice auto belay area and twin speed walls! They have kept the quality of everything over the past few years, even during the pandemic. The staff has been consistently good as well.If you've ever wanted to give climbing a try, this is a great place to do it!

I brought a group here for a fun event and we head a great time! The lady I spoke to who works the front desk was very kind, informative, and helpful! Very nice facility with bouldering, top rope, sport lead, auto belay, children’s area, and training area. I highly recommend going to this gym if you are looking for a place to climb. I wish I lived closer and could go more often!

I took my three nephews climbing for the first time over the weekend. What a great experience. The staff took the time to explain all safety/climbing procedures, helped with equipment selection and adjustments and the kids had a blast! They begged to go again the next day. The 6, 7 and 12 year old found challenging climbs that were perfect for beginners. Can't wait to go back!

Everyone is super chill, and both very knowledgeable and passionate about climbing. This is the best gym to come and learn to climb,or to continue to progress at climbing. Fabian did a great job teaching me how to belay and tie the figure 8 knot. I highly recommend this place, and I'll be keeping my membership here for sure.

Go to Momentum Katy! Nicole Lamb went out of her way to make sure our trip to Momentum Katy was awesome. She gave us helpful advice and checked in on our group regularly during our day. With her guidance, our teenager passed her lead belay test!! We had an incredible day! Thank you, Nicole!

This was my kids first time rock climbing, and I wasn't sure if they were going to enjoy it. Using a Groupon was an excellent way to introduce them to this sport (day pass plus shoes and harnesses). The kids loved it! My oldest, who is 13, who didn't want to even tried (she doesn't like many things), loved it. My two little ones (7 years old) loved it too. They had a kid's bouldering room which is in the back, where the kids could start off, without going too high, build some confidence and get a hang of how to use the grips. After they did that for about 40 minutes, they wanted to tackle the climbing wall.On the climbing wall, you need to use the harness. The staff was nice enough to put it on my kids. Since I wasn't certified to belay my kids, they had a self-belay section, where they could climb up to 20 feet and the self-belay system will guide them down automatically. Letting go off the wall and trusting the system, took them a little time to get use to.We are definitely going back. Next time, they want to try the 40 feet all.

This is the place to go for an amazing full body workout and test your rock climbing ability. Whether your Tom Cruise in MI2 or just a regular joe coming in for the first time, this place has many different areas for you to test your skills and level up to the next one. They have classes to teach you how to belay with a partner and it makes for a great first date! They offer memberships that makes the pricing even more affordable. Highly recommended.

Great gym supported by friendly and knowledgeable staff that are always eager to say hi or assist if needed when you’re working on a project and need an extra set of eyes. Routes are updated so frequently you need to go often to master them all before they’re gone and you’re working on a new set. Love this gym and in my opinion it is one of the best in the US

Absolutely love Momentum climbing gym. It is hands down the best gym I’ve ever joined. I was unsure about joining at first because I felt like I didn’t have anyone to climb with but with in a week the staff had been so kind to me and offered times I could come climb with them/ people they knew. I’ve been a member for over a year and I still meet new people every week. I just started doing the fitness class with Maggie on Tuesday nights and I love it! Highly recommend this gym to anyone in the Katy/Houston area

Phenomenal climbing gym! We go mostly for top roping and starting lead now (Jack is an incredible teacher!! Super patient and very knowledgeable w/ the lead classes), with some warm up bouldering. If we're in the mood for bouldering only highly recommend the silver street location. Even though Katy is 30 minutes away we find ourselves at this location more and more though despite silver street being a couple blocks from us lol

I frequent this gym about 3 or 4 times a week. You will find the staff to be extremely friendly always greeting you as you enter and leave. If you are new to the sport, they will run you through the proper belay training to ensure you understand the safety protocols and motions. Reese (GM) is always ensuring that the climbers are safe and having a great time. Probably one of the nicest people you will ever meet. Highly recommend this location!!

Nice facility. Tons of bouldering and lead climbing space. Friendly staff. Got a membership on my first visit.Only improvement needed is fixing their ratings. They are currently incredibly soft.Updated: ratings have gotten a lot more reasonable since first opening.

We have been climbing at Momentum for about 2 years. We gave it 5 stars after our very first visit, and we would give it more than that now if we could! The gym is clean, the routes are always new, but the best part of Momentum Katy is and always has been the staff. They are truly amazing, whether you have kids in the youth program, you need help in the pro shop, or you just need a little advice about climbing. We have made some great relationships with everyone here, and that is what really makes this place stand out.
