Ashtanga Vinyasa
Ashtanga Vinyasa is one of the oldest modalities of yoga as a movement practice. This yoga method is based on a set sequence, or series of poses that is repeated each time you practice, much like a kind of moving meditation. Your movements are coordinated with your breath as a way to steady and calm the mind, while building strength (particularly in the upper body), endurance, and flexibility within the body. There are six series in Ashtanga. This class will focus on a slightly modified or truncated version of the primary (first) series and is 75 minutes long.
Beginner
Beginner classes will primarily focus on foundational postures to strengthen, align, and promote gentle flexibility within the body. Beginner classes will also integrate various breathing techniques to assist practitioners in advancing their physical practice by learning to link breath to movement. All classes will involve a warm-up, Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures, a restful wind-down, and Savasana, all linked together at a slower, gentler pace but still accompanied by fun music. Beginner classes are open to all levels.
Climber’s Warm-Up
As a pre-cursor to our more physically demanding Functional Movement class, this new format is focused on flexibility drills and climbing warm-ups. There will be a focus on joint care and range-of-motion exercises meant to prepare the body to climb successfully and safely. This class is an excellent opportunity to warm-up the body properly without the fatigue that might result from more vigorous practices.
Flow
Flow is an energetic movement-based class where postures are linked with breaths to create a fluid and dynamic sequence, with an emphasis on creativity. Classes will include a warm-up, Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures potentially working into a peak-pose, and will conclude with a restful wind-down and Savasana. Classes will focus on increasing heart rate and building heat within the body and will be accompanied by upbeat, fun music. Flow classes are open to all levels.
Functional Flow
Functional Flow is the melding together of two of our most popular classes – Functional Movement and Flow. Classes will incorporate elements of dynamic, breath-to-posture movement as well as intentional, longer holds in some poses to allow for more range-of-motion conditioning. You’ll gain a more specific understanding of the role of individual joints and muscles to move your body through space.
Functional Movement
Functional Movement is a more workshop-style class meant to target joint mobility and muscle function in order to help increase strength, flexibility, and body awareness. There will be less of a focus on linking breath to movement and more of a focus on understanding the movement capacities of the body to improve performance in other physical endeavors. Functional Movement classes are open to all levels.
Kid’s Yoga
A yoga offering geared specifically towards our younger climbers & members! Kids yoga is for participants age 5 – 12 and is a great opportunity to begin developing a yoga practice, as well as integrating various other elements of physical movement, breathwork, and creative play. No one is ever too young to experience the benefits of yoga and our hope with this class is to introduce yoga to more people earlier in life to foster a greater mind-body connection.
Power
A slightly up-leveled spin on our flagship Flow classes, Power Yoga is still an energetic movement-based class where postures are linked with breaths to create a fluid and dynamic sequence, with an emphasis on creativity. Classes will include a short warm up, Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures potentially working into a peak-pose with plenty of opportunities to up-level poses and/ or challenge yourself in new ways, and will conclude with a restful wind down and Savasana. Classes will focus on increasing heart rate and building heat within the body and will be accompanied by upbeat, fun music. Power classes are recommended for students who have attended at least a handful of Beginner and/ or Flow classes.
Restorative
Restorative yoga is the antithesis of a Flow class and will focus on mindful relaxation techniques and breath as opposed to intense physical movement. Restorative classes will have very little asana (physical yoga postures) and will make heavy use of props to thoroughly support the body and encourage both the muscles and the mind to find ease. Restorative classes may have a meditation component and might include features such as softer music and singing bowls to amplify the restoration process. Restorative classes are open to all levels.
Restorative Yin
A slightly more restorative/ relaxation-based spin on our popular Yin Yoga classes, this Restorative Yin class aims to add special emphasis on breathing techniques, meditation, and more calming postures. You can expect to use a variety of props to create and sustain sensations within the body, but postures might be held for slightly longer and are intended to veer more into calming “rinse the week away” territory than you might be accustomed to in a traditional Yin class (IE less stress, more rest). The goal of this practice is still to allow the muscles to relax and the body’s connective tissues to absorb the effects of the postures instead, helping with flexibility and mobility, and is more accessible for students of all ages and walks of life, including those recovering from injury.
Slow Flow
Slow Flow is everything you love about our Flow classes, only slowed down to allow your body to really feel each individual posture and how it works within your own anatomy. Postures are linked with breaths to create a fluid and dynamic sequence, emphasizing creativity. Classes will include a warm-up, Sun Salutations, standing and seated postures potentially working into a peak-pose, and will conclude with a restful wind-down and Savasana. Classes will focus on increasing heart rate and building heat within the body and will be accompanied by upbeat, fun music. Slow Flow classes are open to all levels.
Vin Yin
Vin Yin Yoga blends the flowing movements of Vinyasa with the deep holds of Yin, offering a balanced experience of movement and stillness. Starting with gentle Vinyasa, you’ll build heat, releasing stress and energizing the body. The class then moves into Yin poses held for several minutes, targeting deeper connective tissues and promoting flexibility and calm. Props like blankets and bolsters support accessibility and comfort, making it suitable for all levels. This class is ideal for those seeking both physical activity and inner peace, leaving you feeling both refreshed and grounded.
Yoga Foundations
Slow down your practice to refine body positioning and transitions between movements common in various styles of yoga. This class will offer instructions and options to explore which versions of postures are best for your body, allowing you to practice more comfortably and sustainably. This class is open to all levels of practitioner, and is an excellent starting point if you’re newer to the physical practice of yoga.
Yin Yoga
Yin yoga also typically falls under the “restorative” umbrella but is a little more physically involved than a standard Restorative class. In Yin, props are used to create palpable sensations within the body, with the goal of allowing the muscles to relax and the body’s connective tissues to absorb the effects of the postures instead, which helps with flexibility and mobility. Poses are held for anywhere from 1 minute to 5 minutes and there is a strong mindfulness component to the practice of Yin yoga. Music is gentler and there is also a focus on meditation and breath. Yin classes are open to all levels but are not recommended for those suffering from joint instability or hyper-flexibility.
